Good news. I am green! Better news. I am warm! Best news. I am ready to start planting!

The switch for geothermal heat was thrown at 3:15 this afternoon. It took about three hours to heat the whole house -- from the 70 near the fireplace to the 40s in the bedrooms. Finally, I am warm wherever I wander in the house.

The bad news, there is water running into the basement through holes in the basement walls where the geothermal piping comes into the house. It seems one hole is just below the water melting in the trench. DH spent hours trying to dry the basement up while it just continued to run.

Genius that I am, I came up with a solution to most of the water problem. My first thought was a sump pump to carry the water away from the bucket, but DH didn't want to look for one and I'd already tried unsuccessfully.

Here is my brilliant solution: Don't laugh! It works!

The exercise machine is connected to the 10 foot pipe resting on the chair arms for support.

The pipe is connected to the funnel. The funnel is connected to the marshmallow roasting fork. The fork is connected to the top cover of a CD box.

The cover is connected to the ducttape. The tape is connected to the foil. The foil is connected to the tin ductwork piece. The tin is connected to the bucket and the bucket holds the running water off the basement floor.

The bucket is filled in about an hour and needs to be emptied, but a lot less water is getting to the floor. Now that darkness has fallen, the amount of water seeping in has slowed a lot. Perhaps there won't be too much to mop up in the morning.

Now honestly, isn't that an impressive set up I came up with? If my shoulder didn't hurt so much from patting myself on the back. . . .

Congratulations on your invention, but shouldn't the geo-thermal installation guys be responsible for taking care of that?
