Morning,

I want to start my Green Hubbard squash seeds inside. Is it necessary to presoak them overnight before putting them in pots??

I don't know about necessary but it may help, Tony.

Nearly all the squash that goes in the garden in recent years, has been started indoors.

I don't pre-soak the seed but the potting soil is fully loaded with water at the start of things.

I started my squash indoors under flourscent lights. I didn't pre soak the seeds, I just planted them. I kept them watered, but not constantly soggy. I hope this helps.

WELCOME TO TEG!!!!!!! :welcome

Thanks for the help. I have my pots inside, so the soil is warmed up. I'll give it a good soaking and set the seeds.

Thanks again, Tony

Don't soak the soil too much or the seeds will rot. Wet it enough to almost produce a drip when you squeeze a handful. If you want them to sprout a little faster, use a fingernail file and gently file away the edges of the seed until you see a color change. Be very careful when filing near the tip so you don't damage the embryo inside. Just a little tip from a former competition giant pumpkin grower ;)

My use of the term "fully loaded" has been troubling me.

I should have added that my containers have a chance to drip once they are out of the water basin. I am not trying to trap any more water than the potting soil can hold naturally.

. . . just trying to clear that up.

Mule,

I'll take a few pics of the plants and post them.

Why did you say "Make a few more posts so you can post pictures of your seedlings!"??

Do I need a minimum of posts to post a pic?

We had another frost last night so I'm glad I didn't have them in the garden. You're from SE Texas...don't suppose you worry much about the frosts.

A minimum of 10 posts to post pics, helps keep spammers out. We didn't get a killing frost here last winter until December! But the summer heat is a killer, is gets 100 plus and the humidity steam cooks the garden to death!
