Hi everyone,
My husband and I recently moved to central ArkansS on a very large property that we plan to transform into a garden with flowers veggies and a few animals as we.like a homestead. We are starting from scratch. It has always been my dream to have a garden in the country. Well it's finally come true, thank you Lord. I need help on what to plant and when in my area. Does this site have area forums. Or forums specific to locations?
I want to start by planting bulbs around my trees in the front yard. Then add other plants to it to fill it up and make it look really pretty. I also want to grow wild flowers. But I don't know how to do that. I have a lit to learn. Can someone give me some ideas of where to get the guides or information I need? Ty

Welcome to the forum from the Pacific Northwest! Your plans sound lovely!

Hello 👋
There are a lot of clever gardeners here with an abundance of different ideas on growing vegetables and beans. So you have definitely chosen the right site to join. :)

:welcome

:welcome from Central Illinois. NO, we do not have area forums. We have members from mostly USA but also other countries. We get quite interesting perspectives from our friends across the oceans!
Gardening is easy.
Gardening is hard.
We all here have grown a Lot of weeds along with our vegetables and fruits.
Check out your land grant university extension office for local tips. You are paying their salaries, and they are very knowledgeable.
Please put your general location with your avatar bc once you start posting I will forget where you live.

welcome to TEG from mid-Michigan. :)

if you were closer i'd say you are welcome to come dig up all the bulbs you'd like, i have thousands of daffodils, tulips and other plants that would like to be dug up and rehomed.

Hi, welcome. I lived outside Prairie Grove for a while, you have a lot of options.

My suggestion is to find your county extension office and go visit. They have a lot of brochures you can look through and take. You might find one on practically any veggie you are interested in that will tell you how to grow them and what varieties do well in your area. I had one that showed when to plant certain recommended veggies in your area. They have a lot on flowers and fruit trees also. I'd talk to them about getting a soils analysis so you know what you are working with.

I planted various flowering bulbs while there. The iris and daffodils did great. The deer ate my tulips but some neighbors were able to grow them. Trial and error may be necessary.

Good luck! What an adventure!!!

deer, rabbits, groundhogs can be fenced out somewhat but they do love to get any tulips i still have left outside the fenced gardens (they also go after the crocuses which bums me out as i'd like a nice field of them).

for other garden goodies sometimes squirrels, chipmunks and raccoons are tougher critters to deal with.

good fences will help with all of them.
