Hi! :frow

If you're on BYC, then we've already met. If not, I'm glad to meet new folks!

I've been working on getting more native plants growing down by our creek. We've also got a small orchard of fruit trees, like peach, plum, and apple, where the property they're on, we grow wildflowers.

We have a garden where we grow corn, sunflowers, and tomatoes, mostly, but always kale for the chickens. We also have a plethora of seedless purple grapes and raspberries.

Does anyone have a grape jam/jelly recipe? We tried one last year with Sure-Jell, and I'm not sure what went wrong, but it stayed pretty liquid. The orioles love it, though, so it's not gone to waste.

i've only made Concord Grape jam and the recipe needs no additional pectin because they suggest picking the grapes and including some that are not fully ripe. those green grapes have plenty of pectin.

i doubt that all varieties of grapes have the same thing going for them, but perhaps looking up the pectin content of the grape varieties you have might help?

Never made grape jelly, but I’ve had failures in other fruits. Use those syrups for pancake syrup! Or if you have a dehydrator with solid sheets, make your own fruit leathers.
As far as the jelly, just try again. I use certo and sure jell, both are good.

Hi nice to see your beautiful garden. I see you are a seasoned and experienced gardener. Cudos for all the beautiful plants displayed in your garden pics..
:welcome :thumbsup

There are several jam/jelly recipes online , the trick is finding the one you like. I like to goto reputable chefs . I like chefs that were on the tv Food network my fav is Alton Brown. He had his own tv show for awhile with many how to’s & great recipes.
In fact I learned to be a better cook after watching his show.

We did Google recipes last year and chose one that said "Easy Grape Jelly." It wasn't easy getting all those skins off, that's for sure! But we'll just try to find a different one this year, I guess. Thanks for the tip on Alton Brown. I usually wind up at All Recipes dot com.

Please update us if you find a recipe.
It would be worth the effort of taking the skin off to taste that jelly. 😋

i've never peeled grapes to make grape jam, but jam is different than jelly. what i have done is used a food mill to get the skins separated.

it's still jam without the skins because i don't filter the results at all - i do like whatever bits of pulp are in there. :)
