Hooray! I Have Tomatoes - Oh Darn...

Ripe tomatoes sound great to me, all I have are blooms so far. hope the netting helps keep the birds off. I have been watching the first of our straberries turn red, and today they are all pecked . I must put out some netting tommorow.

We pulled our very first red ripe tomato on Friday! pretty good considering we had to start the whole lot of tomatoes again after that frost! I've got several types of tomatoes from what I can tell. One of them is putting out HUUUUUGE tomatoes!! I like that one!

Oh darn birds !! I am more worried about my pumpkins and watermelons ! I just hope no critters go near it !!

Kaolin Clay can be sprayed on your fruit to keep it from looking red as it ripens. This clay is totally organic - just wash it off as you would any dirt. Another option is a small bag tied over each ripening fruit (or bundle of fruit). I have some bags I use for pollinating, but they would work just as well as protection.

Well the netting worked, but than I started seeing bug/worm damage. A sprinkling of Sevin dust solved that problem.
