The Playmates are now 1 1/2 years old and zooming all over the place. Each is going in two directions at the same time and talking up a storm. Two days ago baby A toddled ( ran ) into the kitchen, saw her pacifyer on one of the counter tops. No problem... pulled out the bottom drawer of 2 cabiners away , then she pulled out the next higher drawer half way , climbed up onto the counter top, walked to where the pacifier was, popped into her mouth and came down the way she climbed up. Daughter saw the last part but remained calm. Not to be outdone, yesterday evening, our daughter was making dinner, put a roast into the oven then fixed a salad and left it on the counter, then whent upstairs to the bathroom. When she came back, she saw baby B sitting on that countertop eating some salad. Daughter put baby B down onto the floor, when she immediatly started to climb onto the oven drawer handle, then grab the oven door handle and lift herself up onto the range. Daughter just about had a heart attack, but calmly retrieved baby B and took her into the living room. Daughter is now making the entry into the kitchen baby-proof as possible and then shopping for an oven safety lock today. Last evening, baby A called Grandma on the phone and when she answered, baby A said " high Grandma... " and talked to Grandma for several minutes when her Mom walked into the living room and took the phone away to see who if anyone was on line. I wish her luck as these two have now entered into this clans' classic mode of operendi of getting into everything that is supposed to be child safe. Grandma and I got premature grey hairs from raising our 9 grandkids' 3 parents ... PAYBACK !!! ;) :celebrate

Isn't payback sweet? When my DD complains, I get to say, "You did that too." LOL Those two sure sound like a handful! Mom doesn't need to leave the room, but keep eyes glued on those tow all the time. What did she finally settle on for their names?

The ONE DD with a child doesn't listen well either, so I give advice sparingly. I told her and SIL last Fall to put up gates--G'son was 1 1/2yo--saw their house at Christmas and there were gates EVERYWHERE. It was probably more bc of SIL's hobby figures and DD's sewing equipment than anything else but the right action for the wrong reasons is Still right. Sorry about your recent heart attacks!!! :hugs

Think of the 1 1/2 year old brain cells communicating with each other to assess geometric and gymnastic factors from minimum previous experiences then to apply it to the desired prizes and then to successfully execute the plans. That is Brain power !!!

Did the drawers have child proof locks on them? Can they climb over baby gates? If not, maybe she can put a gate to prevent them from going into the kitchen.

The cabinet drawers are the old fashioned type with no drawer guides, so very hard to open. But they will . Climbing over baby gates, Well, Mom and her two brothers did, as well as all of our grandkids, so these two are no exception. Mom put a baby gate at the base of the stairs and within 3 days, she found them climbing the stairs, then sliding down backwards on their tummies just for fun and giggles. :ep Doggie door - FUN to go in and out to the back yard. Mom put the slide block in the doggie door, the next day they figured out how to remove it and back to their fun and games. :ya :ya When they first learned to crawl, Mom would put them into their swings side by side, then go to fix their bottles, then one day one of the twins came crawling into the kitchen to help mom . She got out of the swing to hurry Mom along. The next day, both of them had mastered that task. :frow :frow The list goes on and on as they learn how to get to where they want to be and Mom tries to keep one step ahead as she had her own experience to draw on. ;)

Do they still make baby play pens ?
They do ! However , the playmates have graduated from it months ago to a totally fenced in area of the living room. They have concored that space and took over the ground floor, then they invaded the stair case as their personal amusement park along with the back patio. :idunno
