We have soooo many slugs. Does anyone no of a natural and effective way to rid my garden of slugs?

I just saw something on pinterest regarding this using oranges I think? Maybe google it?

ETA: theres always the good old salt shaker...

They don't like sand, or eggshells. I use crushed eggshells around my hostas to keep the slugs off. And of course, there's the dish of beer treatment.

oh thank you! I will try the beer and eggshells/sand, copper all of it. I just saw some today and I can't risk all my beautiful veggies! thanks again so much, I appreciate all the tips!

GET SOME DUCKS. My ducks are voracious slug eaters. My female duck ate 24 slugs that I caught and fed to her yesterday in about 30 seconds. I let them free range on days when I don't let the chickens out, when they don't get out I spend a few minutes collecting slugs to put in their enclosure.

I don't know where I got this quote from, but I love it: "You don't have a slug infestation. You have a duck deficiency."

They also cannot cross lava rocks. I encircle my cauliflower, broccoli, etc., with rings of plain lava rocks (the kind used for landscaping). They can't cross lava rock. I learned about that little trick one season after losing my entire season's worth of cauliflower to slugs (and didn't know it until I cut them in half to steam them & they were full of baby black slugs). I have not had a problem with them hurting any of my cruciferous plants since I started using lava rock.

I don't recommend using salt. The salt can seep into the ground & destroy the roots of the plants you're trying to grow.

Sink a plastic cup in the soil, the top to the soil level. Fill it with cheap beer. They will be attracted to it and drown. This works! Also. There is a predatory snail that you can buy and introduce to your garden. They will eat the slugs. These snails do not eat plants. Diatomaceous earth with kill them and is organic. Don't get the kind that os for pools. You can lay a piece of cardboard or wood on the soil then lift it and collect them in the morning.
