Finally this year I am actually growing potatoes. I planted them about 4-6" deep to start with, and have hilled them up to maybe 8-10" above normal ground level.

There is still a LOT of vegetation stickin' out atop the hilled rows, at least a foot high and probably more in places.

Am I supposed to keep going, or what? How do I know when to stop?

:p

Thanks,

Pat

I recall you once saying you like to dig. You can keep hilling them up if you want until they start to bloom. I don't know how much good it will do to keep going, but I stop about where you are. Once they start to bloom they are setting potatoes so any hilling up after that is a waste. That is when you know to stop for sure.

I don't know if this helps you or not. I've already dug a couple of hills from this end. They did pretty well. It was a foot high but settled a bit.

Actually I am mostly adding composted manure and composted woodchips to hill them up, and while I do like *digging* I strongly dislike *wheelbarrowing* LOL so we'll see how much more hilling up I do :p

Thanks folks,

Pat
