how to make an avatar

I have attempted to make this my avatar. I uploaded it successfully to the website but cannot get it to become my avatar. When I tried to do it directly from my computer picture files it said it was too big so I uploaded it and resized it and now it will not let me make it my avatar. Can someone help me with this?

All set! I don't know why files can get so difficult to upload, but I've helped a few others who had the same problem.

If you need help resizing a photo for an avatar, let me know and I'll give it a shot, usually I can do it.
