Can anyone supply me with seeds or point me in the right direction...

I have many recipes I love that call for Saffron, and I would like to create my own. Have you seed the prices for saffron!?

Ok, thanks for the help!

well I can not help you grown saffron I wish I could because I would love to as well and adore the stuff

what I did do (and maybe it is possible for you as well in the meant time?) was order an oz and shared it with friends
it was so much cheaper ...

check out www.saffron.com those are the best prices I have found the company is wonderful to deal with (they always toss a little something extra in the box like an extract or a bar of vanilla soap! ) they have the best selection of extracts I have ever found and wonderful vanilla beans!

saffron keeps literally forever with out the flavor fading so if you have only a couple of folks to split an oz with you can still just use yours over the years

good luck and if you can or figure out how to grow it please share! although I dont think I can do it here it would be so worth a try!

good luck :)

But I want to grow saffron!? Its actually quite easy, and I need 'bulbs' not seeds as they are harvested from the center of crocus in the fall. They do best in Zones 6-9 in the US.

I just need to find someone who will carry these bulbs. If I do and you are interested we can split the order of bulbs to grow?!

Woohooo.... SWEET! Parkseed will have them available in their bulb catalog in July!!! HOORAY!!!!!

I am actually going to create a new garden area as a screen from my neighbors that will include 2 dogwood trees some cone flowers and lots of herbs. I will put in the crocus in the fall when I order them... and The guy on the phone (who was in the hortuculture department) told me they should be ready to simply collect the stigma the Following July for the spice!!! ALSO HiDelight, you can put these in pots.... and leave them out until winter... bring them in... and then put them back out the follow spring if you are below zone 6.

HOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!

I must smile at the thought :)
