gosh that was hard. the price is a kicker. somehow it just wasn't getting cheaper by my delaying. someone posted on here that they threw a frozen chicken in one & in, what, 30 minutes or some crazy thing, they had cooked chicken. that sold me.

I hope I use that thing to pieces

I know they're supposed to be safer now than they used to be.... but they still scare me :hide

I have a little pressure cooker that I love to use. I like to throw in a frozen soup bone, and half an hour later, tender meat and yummy broth. Of course, you don't want to put the veggies in there under pressure. Really, once you use it a time or two, your fear will go away. You can get a little presto cooker for about 40 bucks, I think. The big canners, especially an All American cost several times that.

WHOOO-HOOO!!!!! I am so glad for you and sooooooooo green with envy!!! I have looked at them, but I have to buy a dehydrator first. I am going to get the Excalibur 9 tray dehydrator. I have a pressure canner, so getting the All American is hard to justify right now. My canner has the rubber gasket and a pressure dial instead of the weights. :tongue

We want pictures of your first canning efforts. I know you are going to love it!

the canner came yesterday evening. there wasn't any canned goods in it. what the heck? I thought it would be filled with canned food. well darn.
it's a serious machine (is it a machine?) gosh, I wonder how long it will sit on my shelf before I get the gumption to fire it up.
I will have to do it outside with a propane fired cooker. I have a ceramic cooktop that can't handle it. j
just looking at it makes me feel good inside. it's like seeing lots of possibilities of lovely food stored for the rainy day.

Yaay! One of these days I'd like to be a serious canner and invest in one of those. 'Course if they come empty I'll have to give it more thought. :D

We use ours on the propane "turkey fryer" - we have a glass top too. It really is kind of intimidating. I recommend that you just read the directions and dive in. Don't let it sit there, staring at you! Whenever I can, I feel like a squirrel burying nuts for the winter! Nothing feels better than looking at shelves full of beautiful food you grew and canned yourself. Enjoy!
