In just a few days I've gone from my usual slightly itchy skin to dry, cracked, flaky. I hate the dryness of winter heat. I need a soaker hose. What do yall do to combat the dry, itchy skin of Winter?
My skin is dry all year.
I drink a lot of water, which is easier during the summer, but even in winter I start the day with a 16 oz. glass of water before anything else.
Then there's the usual recommendation of warm vs. HOT showers. I ignore that one completely. And use a mild soap. I like to use shea butter lotions, they're much more soothing than typical lotion.
Use a humidifier in your house, or at least in your bedroom while you sleep.
My skin is still dry, but probably not as dry as it could be.
Here's some DIY hard lotion bars you would like; 3 simple ingredients--coconut oil, shea butter and beeswax. I made them one year for Christmas presents and everyone loved them. They're very soothing for eczema too, if you or a loved one deal with that. I've made them both plain and with essential oils for scent. We really preferred the plain beeswax scent best though. Same recipe can also be used to make chapstick.
I don't have so much problem with my skin, but my nose and throat really suffer. At night I become a "mouth breather" and when I wake up, I feel like my tongue is shoe leather. I drink coffee as much for the hot fumes as for the caffeine.
I have tried humidifiers but they are so noisy, they keep me awake. I need to move somewhere warm and damp. whine, whine, whine
