Steve, I am trying to figure out how to maximize my space. With the new potato/sweet potato/turnip combo, I think I have a good thing going. The bed I plant broccoli in for the winter, is my summer tomato bed, so only two crops there. The bed I plant lettuce in is slightly shaded by the crepe myrtle tree in the summer and I usually grow failed cucumbers there in the summer. 
I am going to try chard in that bed in the spring after the lettuce bolts. Actually, the lettuce is bolting now because it has been so warm. We did get freezing weather this week, so maybe that will help.
Our growing season here starts in any month you choose and ends in that same month the following year.
I am glad you got some sweet potatoes Steve. I had to laugh when I went to the grocery store and saw sweet potatoes for 78 cents a pound. I grew 52 pounds of sweets, so for my efforts, (not to mention the water bill) I got $40.56 worth of sweets! And we have already eaten half of them! Mine are so much better than store bought anyway. :tools

I tore the box open and reverently lifted out the mesh bags that were so thoughtfully packed in bubble wrap. Now I am in a REDNECK Quandry....... :/
