I have this berry bush in my garden not sure what it is called. I have been looking online every where with no success, have been told it might be a red currant but also if birds don't eat the berries they are not edible for humans, is this correct. Saying that it mustn't be my hubby has eaten several of them and not sick yet.
Can anyone help in identifying this bush

Probably not a currant. The fruit grows in clusters much like grapes do. This has only 2-3 fruits at any one spot.
High bush cranberry shrub has (almost) maple-shaped leaves and round clusters of fruit that birds love. Not that. Actually, not a lot of small berry shrubs that I know.
They look a bit like Tartarian Honeysuckle. Not edible if they are.

Someone here will know.

Have you lived there long enough to see the plant in flower? Maybe it is not grown for the fruit, but the flower.
How big are the berries?

Those don't look like honeysuckle leaves to me. But I'm stumped too.

Can you describe the bush? How tall, spreading or upright, grow in shade or sun? Do you know what the flowers look like? It does not look like an evergreen. How big are the berries?

Have you checked out Nanking Cherry?
