Indigo Bunting and window strike!

We had an Indigo Bunting strike our front window on Thursday. I went out to see what hit the window so I could remove body or move up so dog would not get it and found an Indigo Bunting. We do not see but maybe one every year. Thank goodness he was able to leave on his own. (I went in house too get camera and he had already recovered enough to leave before I got back out.) Wish I had gotten his photo 1st. But here is one from on-line. Such pretty birds.

I guess you have not seen my phone! I still carry an OLD flip phone. Takes 1" X 1" photos with no way to enlarge. It would have taken longer to find purse and fish out phone as it did to run in and grab the camera!

It would be nice to see one, now and then ...

There are few bird species likely to be in the neighborhood of my home. Identifying them by song is very difficult for me. I'm not thrilled with bird songs these days so, it's okay.

What I heard today suggested House Finch to me. I know they can't be as fun to see as a Bunting but I learned last year that we are on the northern fringe of the House Finch range. It was the very first time that I didn't see a House Finch all summer! I'm looking forward to having them back.

Oh and hey. I'm almost sure that I saw several Goldfinchs in the garden, recently. None was in breeding plumage so they were just little brown jobs but they have that characteristic flight ... A few seasons ago, it was nearly chaotic out there with the bright yellow and black males constantly in the air above the garden.

glad it recovered! pretty! i've not seen those here.

once in a while we get bird strike on the patio door and it scares the you know what out of me. most of the time the bird does recover. *whew!*

When I think of indigo buntings, I always picture them dust bathing in the middle of a country road. I think that scene is one of the signs of May around here. Have never seen any at the feeders.

And oh, yes, birds crashing into our patio window! I think it was last year that a pair of hummers crashed into the window and died, together, right there. This year, with larger glass in the new doors, we decided to put up some very unattractive but noticeable orange painters' tape in criss-crosses.
So far, so good.

Last year a large bird hit the front window. We weren't here to hear it, but it left a dusty bird silhouette on the glass of outstretched wings. We didn't find a body so assumed he survived.

Wow they are pretty! We don't have them over here. My favourite local bird is the blue tit, a very lively insect eating bird.

somewhere in my pictures or slides i have an outline of a pheasant strike on the patio door that happened one morning when i was sleeping on the floor right by it (they were just building the place so that was back over 22yrs ago). a hawk was chasing it. on my list of things to do when i have time some eon is to get the old pictures/slides scanned so i can upload some of them.
