It's That Moosey Time of Year Again

Took this from the front step as I was leaving for a trip to town mid morning.

Got home with a few bales of alfalfa and came inside to stoke the fire. As I was getting ready to go out to unload the hay Wren barked.

Aarrrgh! One of the babies had already smelled the hay and was heading for my truck. DH being a princely guy went out and discouraged the youngster from sampling the alfalfa, but it didn't go very far. I didn't see where he went off to so we scurried around and got it safely stacked in the extra stall.
Within minutes all three Moochers were back eating the crumbs out of my truck before I could get it swept out. I'm sure they felt cheated.

They waited around for you to return with the goodies, eh? Feeling cheated and getting a snowball in the face wouldn't be too high of a price to pay.

I don't know, can they pick locks?

Good thing they only show up outside of the growing season.

Good thing they didn't decide to get in the truck to lick every last morsel. I can just imagine the phone call to the insurance company! Really great pictures!

That particular scene did flash alarmingly in my mind for a second!
Yikes! That would have been a discouraging turn of events. :eek:
Tall moose and short trucks do have their advantages I guess.

I do feel sympathetic to them this time of year. The pickings are pretty lean out there, and even though their bodies are designed to operate on woody browse, I'm sure they're hungry.
 
What amazing pics...and look at all that beautiful snow! The kids were given sleds for Christmas this year, but I doubt they'll have much occasion to use them here.
 
I love to look at them (from afar). Moose live freely in Moscow, in the park "Elk Island". Everyone understands that it is a wild animal, and you can not approach them close. But there is always someone "smart" who thinks that can come up and pat. Then this "smart" gets an unforgettable flight over the picturesque glade in the nearest bushes.

Yep. We're very alert when they're around.

This crabby mama might be the young cow that was playing in the sprinklers a few years ago. I remember the tantrum she threw when I turned the water off before I left for work.
