Woman has ad on CL for weeding. What I liked was, she claimed to know difference between weed and flower. I have a bed about 8 by 10 very over grown. She went to house to look at bed and give estimate. I just got her email, a of work $700. I sent reply thank you for laugh have a good day.

I would do it for 1/2 that and still feel I overcharged! To bad no one is willing to pay me for weeding my own gardens.

For that kind of money, I would give up grooming dogs. It is a SMALL flower bed !!

I once paid a 10-year-old $5 to weed one of my raised beds. She was saving up for a new Cockatiel.

I'd probably weed your flower bed just for the fun of seeing the flowers appear out of the mess of weeds in the end. 8x10 ain't big.... for $700 a person better be not only weeding the flowers but repainting my car to boot.

I'd have called her up and just laughed and laughed over the phone and then hung up while still chuckling....

I have this problem a lot, workman ask if I will be home, tell them I am only there weeks, price triples.

Folks be greedy. Around here the gas and oil field is booming, lots of guys coming in from out of state to work and live temporarily...consequently, all rents have doubled in this area. Any little tarpaper shack has a $700 a mo. rent on it, where in normal times that shack wouldn't rent at all, let alone for that amount.

That leaves anyone who actually lives locally not able to rent any homes or apartments in this area, so housing is a crisis right now due to the temporary greed of these landlords. Leaves me shaking my head at what folks will do to turn an extra buck at the expense of these poor guys living away from home and at the expense of poor families that can't afford those high rents.

I am guessing your 'a of work' was supposed to be "an hour of work $700". Them's golden roots she'd be bringing up at that price. What a ridiculous idea! I am glad you had a good laugh over it. Even as an out-of-work lawyer, she be pricing herself right out of a job.

I am also guessing that your 8' by 10' (small bedroom-sized garden bed) would take her several hours to complete and would need re-weeding as soon as the weed roots got their breath back.

For $700, I would expect her to guarantee the bed remain weed-free for a whole year and then some.

Cost of living in New York is way outta my league.

Nyboy, I'm beginning to wonder if she made a typo on that amount. I would have loved to have followed up on that.
