On this morning's TV News … yesterday, a cougar killed a woman at Mt. Hood near Zig Zag, Ore. Authorities will be tracking this cougar down and kill it. This is the first reported killing of a human by a cougar in Oregon. This is the only information mentioned on this news broadcast. :caf

I hate hearing news like this, we have a lot of cougars here on Vancouver Island and unfortunately maiming and fatalities are not rare, Many pets have been taken but also children along with a few adults, heartbreaking. Most of the cougars in Canada are here in British Columbia, a good percentage of these here on the island. Just a couple of weeks ago one was down at one of the marinas here going from boat to boat.
DS#2 who lives down island from us was unloading his truck from a hunting trip, turned around just in time to see one about to grab their little terrier . His bow was within reach, this cougar didn't fare so well.

We have a big deer population along with their predators, cougars and wolves. Last year when looking out my living room window I saw a wolf trotting down the middle of the road, not often but bears have been seen but mostly it's just sign they're around. ALWAYS BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS no matter where you are.

One of two girls jogging was killed ~ her friend tried to chase the mountain lion off but couldn't ~ that was here in California out by the coast ~ bad and sad ~ in all the years ~ we've seen only one cougar ~ here out back ~ couple years back ```

For years now the elk population in the PNW are suffering from a hoof disease which makes them lame and then fall ill and are easy prey for predators. So the cougar population was well fed and reproduced exponentially. The Oregon Fish and Game estimates that there are 6000 of the big cats in their State. Enter the release of wolves that are also well fed and reproducing along with black bears, and bob cats. They had a field day on eating easy prey on the elk, and the deer population is declining due to years of drought and forest fires as well as predation. In the news, there has been ever increasing reports of bears, cougars , and bobcats seen in city / town neighborhoods and killing dogs and cats. Humans are now also being turned to as the next meal for these predators as their other prey are dwindling and the predator population has exploded. Just another example of NOT seeing the big picture by the bleeding hearts / animal rights advocades fiasko policies.

Personally, we need to relocate them along with all able non working people, illegal immigrants, drug dealers, pimps, etc to the people of the View, Oprah, etc. let them support them.....especially when they won’t move to Canada as they stated.....

Couple of years ago one was being spotted all over. DEC said it was probable escaped pet ( most come from south america). lady ran it over one dark night. Tested showed wild from states away. Poor lady that hit it got death threats, public wanted her head.

This made me curious. At a zoo a few years ago I was completely blow away by the SIZE of the mountain lions. They were WAY bigger than I expected. And were easily 2x bigger than the cat in this picture. But it doesn't look like a kitten or juvenile...
So now I'm curious. Would simply being kept on a managed diet create such a huge difference??? That would be like a stray pure bred lab ending up the size of the average beagle while it's litter mate growing up in a home reaching 100lbs..
