I hate hearing news like this, we have a lot of cougars here on Vancouver Island and unfortunately maiming and fatalities are not rare, Many pets have been taken but also children along with a few adults, heartbreaking. Most of the cougars in Canada are here in British Columbia, a good percentage of these here on the island. Just a couple of weeks ago one was down at one of the marinas here going from boat to boat.
DS#2 who lives down island from us was unloading his truck from a hunting trip, turned around just in time to see one about to grab their little terrier . His bow was within reach, this cougar didn't fare so well.

We have a big deer population along with their predators, cougars and wolves. Last year when looking out my living room window I saw a wolf trotting down the middle of the road, not often but bears have been seen but mostly it's just sign they're around. ALWAYS BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS no matter where you are.
