I have always loved trees. Growing up our yard was filled with fruit trees. Nothing says spring is here like a fruit tree in flower. Crabapple are one of my favrorite, cherry close 2nd I have planted a lot of them. Cherry and apple always died from my clay soil. Pear and crabapple can handle clay much better . I have developed a love for weeping trees, from that twisted crooked trees. The more twisted the better I like them!! They remind me of a living sculpture. At a holloween tour of Sleepy Hollow cemetary one of the family plots from 19 century had 2 red japanese maple planted on either side . They where over 100 years old, so twisted and crooked prefect for a cemetary!! I have 4 weeping maples at work planted about 15 years ago, they are large mature trees that look llike mushrooms. I wish I had the nerve to trim them so their branches showed more.

I do love trees also Nyboy. Years ago, I lived in a coastal town, close to marshes and swamps. I loved being out in the marsh, threading up tiny creeks and tying up to the bank to fish. The exposed gnarled roots of trees precariously clinging to the eroded banks looked like nature's tree art.

If you want to see fabulous old trees, go to Louisiana and take plantation tours. Many of the old homes are characterized by the old trees on the grounds. My great aunt (long deceased) had an antebellum plantation home and the rose hedge was probably 20 feet tall and as wide. When in bloom it was awe inspiring.

In recent years, four 100+ year old oak trees have died in our yard and had to be taken down. Three old oaks in the neighboring yard died as well. We miss their shade!

I can't wait to get moved so I can plant fruit trees!

Live oaks make some interesting trees! As a kid, my best friend's grandpa had 400 acres and he would come get us for the weekend. A herd of ponies and 400 acres was utopia for us! There were old live oaks that the branches dipped to the ground, we would just walk up the branches and climb into the tree.

I think I was born loving horses. As soon as I figured out what they were, I fell in love with them. I've been bit, kicked, thrown off, never broke any bones. oh, yeah, my hand has a lumpy bone from a horse wreck.....but that wasn't so bad. LOL
