Is there a weed that smells like mint? I have several bunches growing in my chicken run/yard. I dont know where it came from other than I have tried to grow mint many time and ended up dead, so could be some I tossed and came back to life, but I am not sure???

I hate to kill it and it be the mint I want to grow...... Chickens mostly leave it alone for now...

It could also be catnip. Kind of smells like mint- and the chickens leave it alone. A pic would be helpful.

The catnip I have is sort of a dusty green, and mildly invasive.
The mint I planted last year is cropping up everywhere, just like they warned me. :/ It wouldn't surprize me if your mint laid low for a while, then cropped up in the chicken yard. Maybe it sent out runners underground.

I agree with Lisa, it could be catnip. The leaves will be slightly fuzzy compared to mints glossy leaves.

I STILL don't have the terrible problem with mint like I do with many noxious weeds. With mint, you can dig it out, mow it, mulch it and use the mulch in your vegetable beds to keep away bugs. Yes, it is invasive but not as much as other plants that are annuals in the north but invasive problems in the south.
We also make mint sauce every year--just needs APV and sugar and stores very well.

Here is a pict of the mystery mint??
