Monsanto shouldn't be your only concern

Hybrid fish is nothing new. Crossing 2 species of fish is nothing new--think mule.

Putting mice DNA into swine, not something I want. Have to think that may be hard to get by FDA or USDA.

One of my main objection to stuff like this is NOT KNOWING. Since there is so much effort being in put in to NOT identifying GMO's, it makes me very very suspicious.

I am not anti-science, I am anti- being denied my right to make an informed decision.

These are not Hybrid fish.
"This week, media reports revealed that scientists in the department of fisheries and oceans raised doubts about approving genetically modified fish over concerns the fish could escape from fish farms and mate with natural Canadian fish stock"

AquaBounty's website claims the company is also working on developing hybrid salmon, trout and tilapia, which will also grow faster than traditional fish.
What I was commenting on.

Noted. "Mules are not IMO the problem. Gen-mod fish would actually be able to spawn. God only knows what type of offspring they might produce long term if released into the population.
Sorry but I just keep having these visions of such things as asian carp moving into lake Michigan and wiping out our salmon population.
I understand that it is an invasive species and not genticaly modified but I can't help thinking that these guys could be creating another form of "invasive" species in the laboratory just north of lake Superior.

With this we are in total agreement. The "hobby" industry is the problem. They import animals, plants, then when they tire of them, turn them loose. If a company did that, they'd be financially responsible. See piranha in Florida as case example. Sparrows and other European birds.

We had a huge thread about government wanting to regulate the "hobby" industry and most of the posters went off about government intervention. You know, Big Brother.

For me, the "hobby" industry is more of a problem than some lab that is controlled. JMHO

Already stopped eating fish. Between this frankenfish deal and the oil spill, just not worth it. My pork comes from a local farmer who has heritage breeds and pastures it. I have a feeling the ocean is so over fished now, that problems are really going to start...

Unfortunately nothing is hard to get by the government agencies if there's enough money involved. Look at what's happening with alfalfa. The government has approved GMO alfalfa to be planted anywhere, even right up against a crop of organic alfalfa, which it is sure to contaminate.
