These are not Hybrid fish.seedcorn said:Hybrid fish is nothing new. Crossing 2 species of fish is nothing new--think mule.
Putting mice DNA into swine, not something I want. Have to think that may be hard to get by FDA or USDA.
What I was commenting on.AquaBounty's website claims the company is also working on developing hybrid salmon, trout and tilapia, which will also grow faster than traditional fish.
Noted. "Mules are not IMO the problem. Gen-mod fish would actually be able to spawn. God only knows what type of offspring they might produce long term if released into the population.seedcorn said:What I was commenting on.AquaBounty's website claims the company is also working on developing hybrid salmon, trout and tilapia, which will also grow faster than traditional fish.
With this we are in total agreement. The "hobby" industry is the problem. They import animals, plants, then when they tire of them, turn them loose. If a company did that, they'd be financially responsible. See piranha in Florida as case example. Sparrows and other European birds.asian carp moving into lake Michigan and wiping out our salmon population.
Unfortunately nothing is hard to get by the government agencies if there's enough money involved. Look at what's happening with alfalfa. The government has approved GMO alfalfa to be planted anywhere, even right up against a crop of organic alfalfa, which it is sure to contaminate.seedcorn said:Hybrid fish is nothing new.
