I know some will think this is cheating, but have you ever tried any of the Mrs. Wages mixes? I had some leftover tomatoes last year that I wasn't sure what to do with, so I made some Salsa using a Mrs. Wages mix. It made about 5 pints. It was easy, and much to my amazement, it was very good!! The 5 pints only lasted about 3 weeks in our household. Not hardly worth canning them!!

There are other mixes they make, and I was considering trying some of them. Anyone have any experience with these mixes?

Thanks
Brad

I have used Ms Wages Kosher dill pickle mix. I thought they turned out great, then I discovered a simple recipe that worked really well, so did not use the mix the last couple of years. I have used the salsa mix and liked it. I did not have a good turn out with my sweet pickles, I would have if I used little whole cucumbers, but I used it on the ones too big to dill whole, and made sweet chunks. I think I did something wrong.

I've tried about all their stuff. We love the salsa and pasta mixes. And I get a lot of raves about the bread and butter pickles. I've had family beg me for a jar! I like the kosher dill really well too.

I wouldn't call it cheating really, because some things you can't grow (like tumeric). It makes it quick and easy, but I really hate to pay $2.75 for a packet (multiply that by however many it takes to make 40 jars of pasta sauce). I am going to grow as much herbs/spices as I can for that reason. I aim to save money by canning! :p

I have used the Mrs Wages salsa and dill pickle mixes. Everyone loves the salsa!!!
The dill mix I used on green beans, mainly because I got tired of eating them ALL summer, and I had canned all we can probably eat in a couple of year. I also pickled okra, because we only eat it fried and how much fried okra can 2 people eat in one season!!!
Well anyway both things I pickled were just so, so. Now I'm growing some dill and I'll try them this coming season with added dill, that flavor seemed to be lacking in the mix.

THANX RICH
