I would greatly appreciate some help! I’ve got a raised garden bed; I prepped it with soil & compost. This past weekend I planted salvias and pentas, and some Mexican Heather. Everything looks great except my Salvias. We got 1” of rain on Monday and yesterday they looked amazing. Today they look sad. The soil is still moist. Any ideas? Thank you!

They are very mature plants, flowering.

Also, they were in very direct sun at the time of the photo, at least. It would probably be much better for them if you put something up to shade them for several days.

Welcome to the forums! I hope you have good luck with your new garden.

Thanks! Shading them while they get established? A big reason I bought them is because they love sun :)

Looks like some kind of heat & transplant stress? I re-potted some large pepper plants today in my greenhouse and the leaves wilted on them within 10 minutes of transplanting, much like in your photo. It was transplant stress combined with the higher heat that was in the greenhouse. Bigger plants are hit harder by transplanting than little ones.

Did you harden them off before planting them? ...and water them in as part of the planting process?

It is hard on plants, especially mature plants in full bloom, to go directly from a pampered existence to being outdoors.

if the plants were allowed to dry out too much the plugs may not absorb much water. not sure how much of a root ball they might have had too which can also make it harder to soak up water.

agree with others about hardening off plants.
