I planted so many different squash, pumpkins, melons, etc this year. I did have a chart labelling what was in each hill, but I lost it. I planted some Waltham Butternut Squash this year, but the spots on these don't look anything like the Walthams I've planted in the past. I'm wondering if maybe the seed I bought was crossed with something? They are finally starting to turn peach/brown a little. It's the only squash left going in my garden...but since I'm not sure what it is, I don't know what to do with it. :hu Look like anything familiar to you guys? The leaves had a pattern of white spots on them too.

Cushaw's are HUGE. Love the flavor, think pumpkin, but one squash would feed a small town.

It's hard to tell from the picture but there is an Italian Summer sqush shaped like that that tastes like a zuchini.

I think you are right, catjac. I had a bunch of them...they sure were prolific. They did eventually *try* to turn butternut colored, but they don't have much taste. DH got tired of mowing around them and "helped" harvest them, all but one that remains, too early. What a waste of garden space. :P Well, they did look neat in my fall display at any rate. I had a lot of different pumpkins and things to put in it this year and they were something different at least.

As long as we are talking squash, try rumbo squash next year. Huge, sweet, and prolific. A great substitute for pumpkin in your favorite recipes. I roast them and eat them-nothing needs to be added. They are big enough to share with another family and still have some to freeze. I must have 50 of them this year.
