Need support for elimination diet

Thanks catjac! The only thing I take right now are supplements, and advil or aleve if I need it. When my stomach is really bothering me, I've found a tsp of baking soda in a glass of water works wonders. But I'd like to have the stomach issues a lot less! I'm going to eliminate gluten, dairy, corn, soy, yeast and eggs entirely for a week or two, and if I feel better with all of them gone, I'll add them back in slowly, one at a time, to see which one I'm reacting to. Hopefully it's not all of them!!

A friends daughter had a near death allergic reaction to advil. Some people are sensitive to it. It is called Stevens-Johnson Syndrome. She took too much advil for quite some time and nearly died. She just had a reacurrence and it will be a lifetime problem.

Curly_kate, you may know some of this already, but here's a link to a research study that talks about how both IBS and depression can be linked to abnormal composition of intestinal bacteria. I've read a variety of new research about this just lately...i think you have a lot of options to try, if one thing doesnt work, or one doctor isnt working for you, keep looking for alternatives!

There are so many additives in food these days that reading an ingredients label is like a mystery tour. Add GMOs to the mix and you are going to be affected if your immune system isn't up to par.

Curly, have you also seen about getting the blood test for Celiac to rule that out? your doctor should send you to someone that specialized in Gastroenterology and can help you rule out a lot of the possible culprits. my regular doc office would prefer to send you to a specialist than do it themselves. after years of telling the nurse practitioner of my issues this year i finally got an appointment with the actual doctor and he said he thinks all my symptoms are IBS even though i have trigger foods that always seem to set it off. but he said i should make an appointment with a Gastro doc to be sure. i still have to make that appointment. :/

i have a few coworkers that have different IBS like issues. one went gluten free after going through he.. with a specialist that just wasn't doing what needed to be checked. her nutritionist recommended going gluten free for some time since her Vit D dropped even lower after the Gastro doc told her to take even more. nutritionist said that with the IBS/Celiac disease if your bowels are not digesting/absorbing properly that many nutrients will not be absorbed and instead shed out of the body too quickly to be replaced buy a vitamin pill.

my other coworker has Chronn's and is in her mid 20's and has osteoporosis because it was found too late to treat it properly. she's the one that gave me a lot of info about IBS and there are many symptoms that are hitting home for me after discussing it with my doctor. i've had anemia issues for years but no bleeding, i'm exhausted all the time but have trouble sleeping at night (insomnia), i sleep more like a cat that a human-few hours at a time, high white cell count for years, my vit d was tested for the first time last year and it was half of what it should be, i feel very achy in the joints like arthritis, my stress level has been way off the chart for the past year with family issues and work, and i've mentioned to the doc about the possible issues with depression. the real issue is that when i start feeling sick to my stomach and then i feel like someone is kicking me in the left side of my guts i want to curl up and cry and then feel as if i'll pass out but don't! i get this part about once a month this badly. many times i will just feel sick to my stomach and maybe some pressure in my guts and then i have to run quickly. this will happen within 10 minutes of eating most times.

it is even worse for me if i try to go on trips away from my home. i feel like i have to plan every trip around this when i'm feeling like my stomach is not under stress from something.

Curly, do you also have a link to this elimination diet? it might be something i'd look into doing. i'm just not sure i could fully give up some items right away. :rolleyes:

Ive been to a gi doc and because he couldn't find anything wrong (no celiac, no crohns), he said I have ibs. At this point, my confidence in docs is about nil, and I'm tired of wasting time & money on them. So I'm going to see if I can figure it out myself. I actually have a book that contains the diet. It's called the Whole Life Nutrition Cookbook.

I have been seeing a holistic Dr. for 25 years. I resort to modern medicine when necessary but trust my homeopath much more. He laughs at the notion that everything is labeled a disease when it is often an allergic reaction,When you have taken an antibiotic it takes the gut up to 18 months to replenish the good bacteria. Antiobiotics save lives everyday but they are prescribed way too much. Big business climbs on the holistic bandwagon and often pedal products that are of little or no use. Spend your money wisely in your search for self help. I have also gotten a lot of help from acupuncture for stubborn problems. Good luck in your search for good health.I have found the young physicians are more in tune with alternative treatments.

This is going to sound dumb, but when I was 16 I finally complained to my mom that when I ate beef (steak, or very low process red meat) I felt like I had a rock in my stomach for days. Turned out my stomach didn't produce a vital enzyme used to break down meat. I quit eating beef and pork without looking back. Its been 17 years since I've eaten any meat other then chicken or seafood. Much easier on my body for it.

Try eliminating meat or something you eat daily first before eliminating off foods you enjoy you hardly touch.

I may have mentioned this on this forum before, but i have a friend who has finally figured out she is allergic to GMO corn. And it is in everything you buy, practically. It is in all sorts of food additives that are not even thought about. She nearly died, and still has to be very careful. She has to raise her own grass fed cow to have milk to drink, and the calf to butcher, because their corn diet would make her extremely ill. Has to have free range, no corn fed chickens for eggs. She makes her own sauerkraut, and eats a bite of this before every meal. This helps her digestion. Just telling you this to suggest that you may have to look really hard to find what is killing you. You may have to go to extremes to make sure your food supply is untainted. And if you find you are allergic to something that Big Food is adding to everything, and not telling us, you will get plenty angry.
