New Flower Bed Plan- Help! UPDATED!!!

Oooh... like the one in your avatar!? :D

Cat, I did that with my lace hydrangea... I'm so excited it rooted and not I have a little branch that I can grow a new plant from. :D

I can't imagine any hydrangia liking that much summer sun? My understanding of azalia's are they like partial sun growing mostly in the shaded wooded areas (at least at the Azalia Gardens in Muskogee) I don't think they will like full on summer sun all day either. Azalias are also acid loving, making a bed w/ other things in them would need to be acid lovers also.

Unfortunately, they have breed sun loving Azaleas and the stupid ones the guy bought for this house before we moved in prefer more sun the shade it appears. They've done poorly on the west side of the house where I thought they'd like it. I even feed them coffee grounds and they are just kinda squat and there. :P

Southern, I'd love those!!

I did just buy some bulk bulbs for the bed as well, should be coming in March and I will cross my fingers they fill it well. I haven't touched the bed since he tilled it though. Hahahah

Make a list of ALL flowers that you like that require NO maintenance. I can suggest one that keeps reseeding every year--purple Malva. It's about 3 ft tall, has lovely flowers and I don't do anything to help it. I started it from seed in the bed. You can Always pull stuff out later and replace it but you know that the weeds will take over unless you cover the space now.

A wonderful annual is Allyssum. It comes in several colors, but I like the white. They start as little tufts of color. One plant becomes a mound of continuous color. It self sows easily but, not such that it becomes a nuisance. It is very cold hardy here in Massachusetts. It will bloom into early winter before it finally succumbs to the bitter cold. It is lush enough that it shades out weeds beneath it. It may last most of the winter in your climate. I grow it as a low mounding ground cover where it fills in nicely giving bloom when all else is done.

And bees like it too!

Bet you didn't think you'd see this one update!? Hahahaha

Yeah, being sick over and over again... then working as much as I do, and my husband working as much as he does (between jobs AND working side job after side job).

So finally we hit this bed HARD last weekend. I still have dozens of plants ready to go in and move, but I got a few moved already and planted 72 summer bulbs. I'm worried about the bulbs because I stored them in the house for nearly a month before getting them in the ground. Oops!
