Hi everyone, my name is MaryBeth and I live in Missouri with my husband and daughter. I am a HUGE animal lover and recently have gotten into gardening.

My pets include:
1 chihuahua-Honey. 17 years old
1 American Pitbull Terrier-Dozor. 55 pounds of solid love. BLue with white chest.
1 Cat-Ghost. Siamese mix.
*1 Rottweiler/Pitbull Cross-Harley. Brindle with white chest. 63 pounds.
Fancy mice- I breed them in several colors, including merle, brindle, banded, blue, siamese, dove, etc.
rats- Breed them in hairless, dumbo, blue, siamese, merle and a few others.
Homing Pigeons- White mainly, a few colored ones. Looking to add another breed.
Currently Chickenless- Hopefully getting some in the spring again.
I am very active in rescues as well.
I used to have lots of ducks & chickens, but then I moved :(
I have a degree in wildlife conservation.

Growing up my dad always had a garden (corn, etc) and I enjoyed picking the corn, but I never was involoved with the actually hard work. Ive done a few sunflowers and roses, but thats it.

I really want to plant my own veg. garden.

Well winter is the best time to make plans. Since you are new have you consider Square ft gardening or a lasagna garden. There are several threads about them on this site and you could get a book at your library. Both of these methods use raised beds so you could start small or big what ever your needs are. It also make sure your soil is good to go since you don't have a garden area already.

Welcome.
Where abouts in the Show Me State are you located?
I'm about 30 miles west of St Louis.

Welcome to our gardens from sunny San Diego. I am one of the fortunate few who can garden year round. There are plenty of both old hands and talented beginners on this board so you can get plenty of adice when you need it. Gardening need not be all that hard physically if you do it right.
