No peaches this year

Neither of my peach trees bloomed This sux. No peach jam, no fresh peach cobbler, no canned peaches this winter. The Jonathan apple tree is covered with blooms but without a pollinator I don't know how many we will get. Some work-a-holic bees did manage to carry in some apple pollen last year and give me some apples, maybe they'll come back this year.

A frost got my plums and peaches. I have some hopes for cherries and apples. I've seen a few apples forming and hoping for cherries.

My problem was not a late frost, it actually hit on the exact day it was supposed to, April 15. My problem was I had enough nice days earlier for the trees to bloom. I tried washing the frost off with water but it looks like it didn't do much good. I can't find any peaches or plums setting on.

Still have my fingers crossed. Nothing is budded out yet, but getting closer every day. No frost predicted through next Friday, and May 15 is supposed to be our last frost date.

We haven't had a tinge of frost since it started raining over two weeks ago and it is hard not to put everything in the garden.

I heart you Red. My 10 day looks real good so I have some tomatoes and peppers out, plus I've got bean and corn seeds in the ground. I think I'll be OK with the vegetables this year if we get rain.

Last year I had a problem, we had snow accumulation on May 1, the latest date on record. My fruit trees were hit real hard and some plants I put out were stunted. Some tomatoes never did fully recover though I kept them alive. They produced but not much. I'd have been better off ripping them out, but by the time I realized that, it was too late.

The year before that my last freeze/frost was about three weeks early. I succumbed to the temptation to get some tomatoes and such out a couple of weeks early and was rewarded. Fruit was really nice. It's a game of risk and reward.

You win a few and lose a lot. You dress out for all of them and some are rained out. To me the key I that you dress out for all of them. You don't quit. Wish you luck up there with your decisions.

I haven't gotten an edible each off my tree in 3 years I get a good start the peaches are everywhere and then. . . brown rot I have sprayed and trimmed, and sprayed some more and the rot wins not able to go out there and spray anymore so it's just a pretty ornamental tree.

@MontyJ , maybe you could get somebody with a pollinator tree to give you a few branches with blooms. You could stand them in a bucket of water under your Jonathan for better pollination.

Mine didn't either! Just two sad, little pink blooms. Didn't even form flower buds. Must have had something to do with the low temps? I thought maybe my tree was diseased or something until you mentioned it.

That's a great idea thistle! I don't know anybody with apple trees though I was just over in the eastern panhandle last week and there were apple trees blooming everywhere! I wish I had thought of that idea then!

Journey, we are not alone. There is a house in the neighborhood below us that has a peach tree in the front yard. I looked at it today, and not a sign of blooming. It had to be the winter we had. That was a rough one.
