On Jan. 28, 1868, Amariah Hills of Hockanum, Connecticut, received the first US patent for a reel-type lawn mower.

Interesting that it was being made at "Colt's Armory." Something about swords to plowshares comes to mind. But then again, the lawn and mower were something of a mix of blessings for the following generations. @ninnymary 's and others' astro landscapings are probably wholeheartedly agreed to by many husbands.
