I was happy/sad to hear that only the Yellow Knockout Roses have a scent. I have a yellow one bc I like yellow roses, but I was thinking about buying a red one next year. But I don't want to if it has no smell. Does anybody know anything about knockout roses? I know that they are no-care and mine is huge with LOTS of rose hips this year.

I guess like lots of other hybrid roses that are bred for ease of care, disease resistance or beautiful classic shape, they had to sacrifice something. :(
Roses are a plant that I love as a group, but individually, I think they are a lot of trouble, for few blooms. I just plant other things that bloom more abundantly around my roses, and sort of ignore them. When they bloom, it's a bonus. They are the old David Austin roses, so at least they do have a good smell when they bloom.
There are lots of red Knock-outs planted in my area. They seem to do really well, and some are really showy. Just think of them as a pretty blooming shrub, not a rose, and it's not as disappointing when they don't smell! :D

I have the pink ones and they didn't smell. I finally got rid of them because to me roses have to smell! Otherwise what's the point?

I like the david Austin roses too. I have one called 'heritage'. it's a pink (like the color of pink glass) w/nice scent. it's pretty tall (about 5 feet), but it is not mature yet - so not sure how big it will get. one bonus is it has little to no thorns & nice hips.

I have a pink knockout because it was my mothers & she loves knockouts. I use it as a shrub & pretty much ignore it.

It's just so wierd. My yellow knock-out wafts fragrance all over the yard, and especially close by, and it's planted right next to the garage. I understand that heirloom roses often found growing on abandoned properties taking care of themselves, "thank you very much", and a great rose to own.

I'd go see for yourself when they are in bloom. I know there are new varieties out & that was the biggest fault of the knock out was a lack of fragrance. I've never grown them myself so I don't know but it might pay off to look into it yourself before basing it on Internet opinion.
