Organic garden

I know many of us are organic and others trust any of the products that can spray on their garden. Here is my corn in my entirely organic garden for the last 37 years. No pesticides, fungicides, nor herbicides. Chicken and horse manure and chickens foraging all winter in the veggie garden.

Beautiful corn Cat. But I'm assuming that is not all of the harvest? How much corn do you harvest? Is it a good amount per plant?

I love the yellow and white varieties like that best myself. I haven't seen it as open-pollinated seed and that is what I try to raise. Don't know why. As far as main crop sweetcorn goes, I never trust the seed to be true around here anyway. Too many farmers growing corn.

At best, I will try for a small out of season planting hoping to avoid cross pollination that way. That's my punishment for not getting a good planting growing this year -- nary an ear to munch,

It is around 30 X 30 I am guessing. 2 kinds of corn enough for my family and a lot goes in the freezer for the winter. I guess there are 2 ears per plant.

We had some last night for dinner, from the nursery/veg market down the road. Organic and real good stuff, but it always tastes better when you grow it yourself!

Notice what Johnny's says about seed color.

I think it might be better to call this a "mix" or a "gene pool" - rather than open-pollinated, just for clarity. However, I'd guess the same situation is true with calico corn.
