All of them absolutely loved the soup

i probably would have liked it too. :) some people are picky eaters... not me. mostly. haha!

next time ask them if there are any vegetables they would like better if they were not made into a stew or soup, so perhaps some could be used if they were by themselves. plain or with a little butter. :)

and then there are the extreme versions that my Dad always used as his default cooking style, burned on the grill and sprinkled with beer (to put out the fires). i still can't eat grilled chicken any other way.

My chickens love tomatoes. It was mostly tomatoes but I gave the sweet potato to them also. The only veggie they don't like is green beans. Fruits they don't like blackberries or strawberries. They love cooked pumpkin but not so much for raw. They will eat it eventually but they're not fans. I have already been finding out what they like and what they don't. The 2 younger ones I have were a bit stand- offish by the cucumber and zucchini but they did eat.

I'm considering pulling out the garden for the most part. I'm going to leave my pumpkins and squash. I will also leave the sweet potato plants and tomatoes. I'm also thinking about moving my spearmint next to the chickens. It might help them calm down

Too much work AND you will leave space for weeds to come in. Leave the plants, let them go to seed, collect and dry seed for next year.
Consider that everything vegetative will amend your soil.
You could put down straw and let it rot for next year.
Earlier this Spring DD's cleaned out my stalls for me. DH drove the tractor in the barn--2 stalls are made from 3 round pen panels and a round pen gate panel, each, and the 3rd has a 13'gate, all movable--and they were shoveling soil from below the rubber mats. THAT's what happens, with or without sunlight.

I want to pull it up because I also still need to find the beginning of the neighbors stinking morning glories and get them abolished. I am going to do a garden next year and I want to go vertical with everything I can. I have so much crabgrass that I would have to spend 12 hours a day in the garden working on weeding. I'm hoping to get the entire area tilled and covered with cardboard. I'm still going to use my raised beds and the hugelkultur method. I'm not going to turn away from organic gardening either but I just want to make next year the best garden ever for me.
