We have a new employee on the ranch.

She is second in command of fertilizer manufacturing, pasture mowing and milk production.

She's out of my Jersey milkcow, EmmaLouMoo and her sire is a Japanese AkaUshi Bull
Meet Sushi!

She is a VERY good Mommy! SHe has been so sad since she lost her own mother a year ago this August. I am so glad that Sushi won't have to be sold or go to freezer camp. She and Em can be together for life! :weee

Just lovely! What a nice thing to know they will live their lives together! Enjoy that fertilizer!

Im really curious to hear how her production is when she's old enough. Beautiful calf though she's a real looker

Me too. I am so hoping her production will be LESS than her mama, but still creamy and NOT have to feed her so much supplement! A low maintenance milk cow is what I am hoping for :)

Is that a common practice on how to get a decent amount of milk for the homesteader? Or something your trying on your own? Was she AI or what was available for beef bulls to breed to her? Im just wondering why you chose the bull you did. (Long way around of asking that I guess ;) )

I had always planned on giving extra milk soaked in crumbles to my freezer bound chickens but I have to get the milk first ;) Even still what most dairy breeds produce is WAAY more than I could use.
