Hello everyone!

We would like to plant some more snap peas for a later summer harvest. I was wondering when the best time to do that might be. Are they only a cool weather crop or can I plant then in the next week or so for end of July - mid Aug. harvesting? Thanks!

I would think it may be too hot to plant now.

The biggest thing you have to think about when planting most cool season crops is harvest date compared to first frost date. Now most plants can withstand a light frost without a problem. That being said. Take your first frost date and count backwards about 60 days add 2-3 weeks on that and that's when you should plant peas since that's about how long they take to mature. Do this with all the rest of your cool season crops and you should be okay.

Also, if the summers are a bit on the cooler side, like nothing above 80 degrees, you may be able to plant earlier. Or even look into heat-resistant or slow bolt varieties of most plants.

Hope this helped. :)
