Howdy all. It finally did a serious snow up here at Lake Pillsbury starting this morning, December 15th. Here are a few photos.

These are the trees to the south of my garden

Snow on the netting. Actually, before it got dark I noticed that a section of netting failed at some of the stitched seams. There will be some repairing to do.

Oh Southern, there are places in the world, which is shaped like a ball. that get clouds that blow down from the top of the ball. REALLY AND TRULY! Thing about that top part of the ball is that for 3 full months it stays night time. Not kidding! For 3 months after that it's like early morning all day and then nights again!!! THEN, for 3 months it's MORNING ALL DAY LONG!!!!! After that it's like late evening all day and then nights, and then, 3 months of night again!!!

Now, even southerners know that nights are usually cooler than days. At least usually. Wellp, when ya get such long nights, then nothing but short mornings and long nights, then nothing but early morning all day, then late evenings and long nights, and then 3 months of night again...

...it stops being very warm at all! YEP! In fact, kinda like the best and coldest freezer that Sears has ever sold, maybe even colder, in fact, fersure colder!

Wellp, what happens is at the top of that ball that is our planet, all that cold colls off the air there too, and it's an ocean there! So, this cold air gets cold fogs, and because it's so warm down south, and because this great big ball is spinning...

Geez, why doesn't that spin throw me off with centrifugal force???? I BEST HOLD ON, JUST IN CASE SOMETHING GIVES OUT!

But, even though it looks like I don't have to hold on, all those foggy clouds do get moved around by that spin! THEY REALLY DO! Not only that, but some clouds are warm, and others are cold, and they get blown around differently by the spinning! NOT ONLY THAT, but the things that get in the way like mountains and my ex brother in law's ego, make the clouds get mixed up in where they go!

So, sometimes those cold foggy clouds from the top of this ball shaped planet find their way to Northern California, where they hit the hills, and then the clouds come up here. Wellp, another thing is, even though hot air rises, and up here we are a little closer to the REALLY REALLY HOT BALL SHAPED YELLOW BRIGHT THING SOME FOLKS CALL THE SUN, it's actually a touch cooler up here.

NOBODY HAS BEEN ABLE TO EXPLAIN THAT ONE TO A NEANDERTHAL'S SATISFACTION. Us Neanderthals have found a few things wrong with the laws of physics, and that is one of them.

The other thing wrong with the laws of physics is, if australia is 18 hours ahead, and also 6 hours behind, SOMETIMES AUSTRALIA IS YESTERDAY AND TOMORROW AT THE SAME TIME!!!

HA! CAUGHT A MISTAKE IN THE LAWS OF PHYSICS RIGHT THERE, AND THERE IS NO EXPLAINING OUT OF IT! JUST FESS UP. THERE ARE SOME PROBLEMS WITH THE LAWS OF NATURE!!!

ANOTHER ONE IS THE PROBLEM WITH MIRRORS!!!

MIRRORS MAKE LEFT BE RIGHT, AND RIGHT BE LEFT, BUT THEY DON'T DO THAT WITH UP AND DOWN!!!
I PERSONALLY TESTED THAT PROBLEM! EVEN TURNING MY HEAD SIDEWAYS DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM!

SEE??? Modern humans have smaller brains and just buy into anything anybody tells them for explanations. Us neanderthals find explanations, and if there is no explanation that makes sense, we look up to God and say, caught ya in a mistake! But it's cool. Good thing most of your people are modern and think they have it figured out, but between you and me God, ;) we know it's a mistake. You probably have a good reason for it.

Anyhow, where was I with the clouds? Oh yea, they come up here and try to rain...um,

MY EVENING ESPRESSO IS WEARING OFF!

I am really reassured by this explanation, Marshall.

And, the evidence is right there in pictures!

Golly! A person might think that the white stuff there is somehow related to what is falling here, even as I type! I'm sure that Southern Gardener is seeing it come down, too! And, why shouldn't she? . . ?

Wellp Digit, ya see, Southern is down there in Weezeeyaner where the wiminfolk talk that talk that kinda way that just kinda melts us ole neanderthals.

Down there the warm clouds almost always prevail against the cold clouds, and even when a cold cloud makes its way there the warm southern nights and warm southern sun has melted the cold clouds.

Ever once in awhiletho an especially cold cloud can make its way there, at least to the northernmost parishes. See, Weezeeyaner is such a special place that instead of counties, they have parishes! 'djaknowthat? I think the reason for that is that special kind of way the wiminfolk talk down there. All the men here that, and soon as they hear that, they want to marry the wimin! Wellp, county judges got so busy they just decided to turn the courthouse into a parish meeting house.

Question arises, why doesn't the rest of the country catch on to Weezeeyaner's lead? I think it might be because men fear commitment! Most northern men aren't what southern wimin call CHIVILROUS. Now, that's when ya say yes mayamm and really mean it. It's one of those cause and effect things. when ya got wimin talking that Weezeeyaner parish talk, ya almost automatically get men talking that chivalrous talk.

But there's more to it!!!

Down there they have this big place even farther south than NYAHLYUHNZ~

Where trees grow right out of the shallow water, like a flooded forest
Magical
Mystical
Mysterious
Can ya hear the frogs?

Even though this is at the southern tip, it's where the central springing is of all that is so special about Louisiana.

Those cold clouds leave the bayou alone. This is by decree from Great Spirit. For down in the bayou they say

Layzaylaybohntohmprohllay, a word that must be spoken many times, ENTIRELY WITHOUT REVELENCE! In fact, with joy!

Once spoken just right, good times begin to roll. Okra turns to gumbo!

No cold snowy clouds can be allowed to drop cold white stuff there! Sometimes, ya just gotta trust Great Spirit.
But if ya want, Come on up for a visit Southern! Some northern men know how to say yes mayam and mean it!

Marshall, you may not be spending enuf time out there with your snow shovel . . !

I've been out. I start with the broom - because I've been trained that way. The snow blows quite a ways under the deck roof and I see that DW made it out to the snow line and no further with a couple items for the recycling. I just moved them off to the side but if she'd dropped a banana peel there at the top of the stairs instead of getting it into the compost bucket . . .

I might have had something to say!

< Little Break while I finished shoveling - aaalll dun (for the moment) >

Oh Marshall, you do have a way with words! You paint a very pretty picture of Louisiana, but don't be mislead - North and South Louisiana are VERY different from each other. Some of my southern neighbors tend to believe we are not a part of of Louisiana at all, but Texas - personally, I like Texas.

Now I was born in central Louisiana to a very french family on both sides and have kin all over the state, so I am fortunate to experience all aspects of Louisiana traditions, north and south.

I may take you up on that visit, just to see if northern men know how to say "yes mayam" ;)

Joan, you just keep in mind that Marshall was only allowed into Montana because he had relatives up here.

Yeah, fair warning . . . Marshall's down there in Charles Schultz country.

I hasten to add this Charles Schultz quote: "My life has no purpose, no direction, no aim, no meaning, and yet I'm happy. I can't figure it out. What am I doing right?" I don't know if that was Schultz or Charlie Brown asking that question but you know, he wasn't talking to Lucy. A person can be confident of that!

Yes mayamm, all y'all come on up t'here, hear, set a good long spell on my porch. Sorry about the missing rocking chairs. One of these camping foldable chairs oughta do right nicely. Now, we can train some of these northerners to be chivalrous, and some we can't. Myself, I think I got it from my mother's mother who died before I was born. She was from Appalachia, so far up in the woods they thought it was Kentucky, but by gosh and golly, these computer satellite pictures show they were in Virginee! Mom's father's family too. Way back before the civil war they were sneaking out runaway slaves to Canada. Maybe they were just saying it was Kentucky! Anyhow, the yes mayamm comes naturally to me.

Just remember never to say that to Montana gal!!!
