Please help the newist of newbies!!!!

Im in zone 5. Can i use straw and newspaper as mulch? I have tons of it.
I put my tomatos and peppers in a row. I can make shade covers if i need to.
Thank you everyone for your wisdom. Im really needing this to work.

I can't imagine that you would need shade cover- peppers and tomatoes are full sun loving plants... Straw should be fine for mulch. Good luck!

You can just about use anything for mulch and newspapers is great. Just not the magazines or the waxy stuff. And you should not shade the tomatoes.
