Would anyone help me identify what this plant is? It was from a pack of a mixture of old fashioned flower seeds. I threw them into the flower bed a little late in the season so this plant has not flowered. I am very curious as to what it is. The leaves are velvety on both sides.

Just a wild guess, but I wonder if it is maybe something in the Dianthus family? :idunno

It is either a wallflower, or Stock.

Both plants are biennials. Grow from seed one year and flower the next. During mild winters, it i possible to keep them going for longer than the usual 2 years, especially if you have dead-headed them often.

Thanks impis! It looks like the stock you have pictured and I do remember that stock was one of the flowers listed on the package. I appreciate the help.:)

Looks a lot like echium. Some echium are perennial in the North. Is it prickly to touch? If it is echium -they are beautiful blue, pimk and bicolored flowers. They reseed a bit too easily but the volunteers are easy to keep up with.
