Well, to be honest, I had never heard of them either until I started reading Spider Robinson's Callahan series, and one of them showed up in one story (thereby creating the problem of how does one run a bar when it is inhabited by a creature that literally makes all alcohol in the area disappear.)

there is a usenet group devoted to Callahan's Crosstime Saloon, i do read and write there but i've not really gotten into the stories to really know what anyone might be talking about. i just lurk mostly in the dusty corners...
