If anyone is interested I have dozens of these 'bulbs' and 'seeds' from some solid red cannas.

I do not like them... sorry, but I don't!

I am moving a few from bulbs out to the pond, and I saved the seeds (they are cool little dark black pellets). I am willing to trade with anyone who may want them.

I would like tulips, calla lilies or crocus in return. :D Maybe even more Iris?!

Right now the Cannas are in the front yard all over the place, and I prefer to have Tulips scatters around instead in those spots. I don't really have much use for tropical plants with my tastes.

Awesome offering,

I am so happy to be full of lovely cannas right now, but since cannas and thinning go hand in hand I can relate to having to distribute them in bulk to get rid of them. Typically what I do with the bulb, since they are heavy and can be bulky, is run a local ad in Craigslist. I love it when a new family or gardener pulls up and we get to shovel them into their car LOL. :D

As for the seeds, these should be put in baggies and thrown in that basket for future gifts. Canna seeds keep forever! Seriously they do. I would set some aside for that off-chance someone comes along in a few years and wishes they had a canna, especially as lovely as a red one!

The reason I chimed in was I am thinking you have enormous canna beds and they just took over on you. Sorry, my imagination gets the best of me. LOL. I am sure you will be Cannaless soon <smile>.

Take care, I really would consider Craigslist, they would be gone before the weekend is over.

You couldn't be so wrong! LOL

I was given a BOX of canna bulbs late winter early spring and I was told they were Calla Lilies.... so my stupid rear went right out and planted 1/2 the box in a matter of 4 hours. All over none the less!!!

Then they came up... then I was like :/ ... and now I'm like.... its going to take forever to rip them all up!!!

BUT THEY MUST GO!!!!!!!!!!

:gig

But I am going to hold on to the seeds, they seem to grow and should be treated like Lotus seed.... and I went through a lot last year trying to grow a lotus! What an experience.... and I would LOVE to try that again this year if I could. :thumbsup

OHHH No!

I cannot believe the luck. Have you mentioned this to your friend?

Just this Spring a friend of mine called and asked if I wanted Society Garlic. This in my mind would mean the purple flowering ornamental which is not a garlic. I go to her house and it is a 15 foot bed along the side of the house infiltrated with burmuda grass, and it appeared she was starving the soil without water to eradicate one or the other.

I spent the afternoon going through the bed and clearing all bulbs (just the dried from the previous season), and the grass. In the end i had a 5 gallon bucket of shriveled bulbs..but they had a tip of green to them. She got a free bed cleaning! So finally they grew, and now bloomed LOL, they are just simply garlic chive. Cute yes, but not at all what I would have wanted to achieve in this bed, and I do already have enough garlic chive. I told her and she reminded me they were free, and I laughed and told her what was free was her bed-cleaning. Needless to say she adores me and I adore her, she has some awesome Orange Iris that I am going to barter for next!

OMG, I still can see your situation as being far worse, at least garlic chive and Society garlic grow to roughly the same height and all...removal for me will be a breeze.

Love your friends and remember the good times LOL...then make them Pay! Bless their hearts for trying to help. :p

Do you still have any? I don't like them very much but I have a hill on the new farm that is bare and crying for something for erosion control.. and I'm thinking these might work nicely.

Don't even suggest a evergreen, I hate those things with a passion.

I do still have them, but I would suggest a good thriving hardy plant over these for a job like that. Cannas come up late in the season, and I don't think they would really be very filling for the space.

Plus, you will probably have to start the seeds inside and transplant?!

Have you thought about maybe a self sewing flower like cone flower or black eyed susan that would stay hardy?!
