The lambs were killed by a Coyote!! It dug under the fence at the goat pen!
The Goats are all ok. Though the lambs were the same age as the goat kids,
they were lots smaller.

The goat pen is now hopefully more secure from digging preditors.

On a lighter note, I harversted some Basil this am,
here are the trimmed and washed leaves ready to
go in the Vitamix

and this is how much Pesto I got after adding Olive Oil, Lemon Juice, Garlic
Pine Nuts, Parmesan Cheese and a bit of salt.

If I can harvest this amount every couple of weeks, I should have plenty
of Pesto by the end of summer.

Oh, that's terrible news! Poor lambs!
We had a coyote 100 feet from the house checking out my chickens one morning about 2 weeks ago. Our dog won't challenge them, he's into self preservation. Who knows how often they come snooping around.

That's some beautiful pesto you have there Rebbetzin!

Oh no, sorry to hear that! You know, I love basil- and I really don't like pesto... Just doesn't make any sense!

Saddest thing ever! I hope they did not leave anything for you to see. So sorry.
No, I didn't have to really do anything regarding the sheep. There are four of us that take turns feeding, milking etc. The lambs were killed early Sat morning. I didn't know about it until I arrived at the goat pen this am, and saw the lambs were missing, and there were railroad ties and boulders all along the bottom of the fence. I kinda put 2 and 2 together, that some preditor got the lambs.

So, I called one of the ladies and found out a coyote got them. In fact the coyote got caught red handed with one. The gardener saw it with a piece of the lamb, and called one of the owners of the lambs. Very sad, she is the one that for some reason always has the job of finding the dead kids and lambs!

My only day to "do" the goats is Tuesday. Bets the "farm" bug out of my system a bit, without having the 24/7 responsibility of the goats.

Hate to hear that - poor babies.

Rebbetzin, do you freeze the pesto in the jars? I have SO much basil, I think I'd like to do that.
I have it on good authority, (Thanks vfem!) that you can freeze it in ice cube trays, and then put in a plastic bag to be used
as you need it. I think I will try that.

I have kept it in the fridge for months at a tme and it is still good. The garlic and oil seem to keep it fresh.
it might discolor on the surface, but I scrape off the discolored part, and it is fine underneath.

Oh my! How sad. I am so sorry to hear about your lambs. :( Anyone who farms or raises animals knows of the potential for things like this to happen. However, it is still very dissapointing when it happens.

Your pesto on the other hand looks AMAZING! What beautiful color! :thumbsup
