I need some strawberry advice.
(1) Do they grow better in containers? I have read about growing them in those--I was thinking about a whiskey barrel and growing them at my DD's house.
(2) Do they like acidic soil?
(3) Do they hate to "get their feet wet?"
(4) Do you start from seed or buy the starts?
Thanks! I can never get enough strawberries and I am truly jealous!
1. Here in Tucson, about the only way you can grow them is in a controlled environment. I tried growing them
in the soil here, and they were salty instead of sweet!
2. That I am not sure of, but we have naturally very alkaline soil here. If I put vinegar on the native soil it will fizz up!
3. I drilled holes in the wheel barrow and filled it the first time with Miracle Grow Moisture Control Potting Soil. That stuff is great for pots and containers.
I4. I bought Ever Bearing Plants. I have a small amount of berries all year long.
Never saw seeds for Strawberries....
