stubbed toes and mud pies

my big mistake was that i never had pre-calculus before going to college and because i really undrestood algebra and geometry etc. really well i advanced placed right into calculus but i was lost.

autodidacticism is how i spent many many hours as a kid because i was curious about anything (and still am if i have the time :) ) i could read and Mom was involved in setting up two libraries. i spent many hours in both of them.

I started college when I was 28 and scored high enough that I wasn't required to take a remedial math or English class. Big mistake on the math part as I never went farther than geometry in high school. Ended up being tutored by a math teacher my mom had in high school and managed to pass the math part of the Praxis exam on the first attempt.

We lived about 15 miles from town and usually only went there once a week. I remember the kids library card was limited to twelve books at a time and had to convince Mom to check out the rest of my stack of books on her card. Used to lay in the ditch and read in the summer which sounds more horrible than it was. Spring that fed it dried up by summer and was replaced with a soft carpet of grass. :)

yeah, when we went to the main library in Saginaw i would come out of there with paper grocery bags full of books. the township library just didn't have enough of the books i was interested in after i read through the collection they did have. i spent a lot of time in that small library because Mom volunteered there and before they got the metal out-building it was just a closet in the township offices. my favorite stories i would re-read just because i could if i had time for them and nothing else was available.

i still re-read books from my shelves here at home along with the local library. but recently i found out i can sign into a lot of other library systems in the state who've agreed to share their e-book collections so i now have thousands more books available to me that i've not been able to get at up to this point. so i'm going to be a happy camper for the next several years wading through them and finding things i've missed or known about but not able to read.

lawn is halfway mowed. i was about 1/4 of the way done and took a break. finished the to the halfway point (it's more than halfway but i think of it as the halfway point) and said that was enough. with all the pollen in the air my breathing wasn't fond of the whole outside experience anyways and me not being used to working very hard also didn't help a bit. but we got done what i needed to do for today and will finish it up tomorrow. i'll have to hook up the hose(s) and that's not something that makes my day either, but at least i only have to do that once or twice a season. :) *whew!* :)

@ruralmamma oh no! achilles tendon problems are no fun at all. i pulled my left side many years ago and never had it treated in any way. my leg isn't quite the same and i have to be careful on slopes if i'm working on something but otherwise i just do whatever i can. i'm not sure i care any more about this stuff as my body gets older it's not recovering as well but also i'm finding out more about what may be going on so i'm learning how to do and think about it differently. as long as there are no emergencies that i have to be super-human strong for i can get along i just have to pace myself and be realistic. i have tendon and flexibility problems all over the place. the chiropractor and massage therapy have helped me more than anything and i don't normally need any medications or pain meds, so i think i'm doing ok, all things considered...

:hugs:hugs

I am way shorter on my left side and my right side has the worst pain. I think because it carries most of my weight

I rejected pain killers years ago because they messed up my stomach. Which caused me to have a big operation. I was told during that operation, my life almost ended. But here I am my friend, to fight with you for at least another day 😉😘

it is morel mushroom season here, with all the rain we've had there are four small morels out there now and i'll leave them alone so they can spread more spores.

if there is a particularly nice one that i see i'll rinse it off (saving the rinse water) and then use that to spread the spores even more.
