Next year I'm looking to expand my 50x60 garden to over an acre in size. I'm wondering what would work better initially to plow up the lawn and then maintain a garden year after year. Tillage discs or a plow and cultivator. I have an old fashioned push cultivator for weeding so a tractor driven cultivator I wouldn't use for weeding between the rows while the crops are small. Thanks for any advice/input.

IMO if you are starting a new one (or I do mine every year) it needs to be plowed a good 14-16" deep. This needs to lay for a month or two to help break down what you turned under. Then I run the bir tiller over it (70in). After things are planted I use my little (14in) tiller to cultivate. That first tilling give you the perfect time to work in your compost and fert before the final tilling and planting comes.
