Today's garlic harvest

Scapes form on hardneck varieties. I plant softnecks here which don't produce scapes. When the leaves are about 40% dried is time to check for harvesting and not by a certain date.

Thanks, @meatburner, that's what I wanted to know. Mine didn't send up scapes so I just wait for them to yellow a bit more.

Take them off. The energy will be redirected to the bulbs.

Actually, I like the idea of non-poluting mowing. I just don't like the idea of me doing it.
