It may take someone who has not lived in California to notice something like that.
UFO's are so common in the state that they are generally ignored.
Distractions from watching the gorgeous guys and gals are unusual given that the entire society has to live with near constant earthquake alarms and shouts of "Camera!" "Action!"

Got out camping for a few nights despite the massive amount of smoke. Overnight we had a touch of rain and the sky was beautiful in the morning, just a hint of smoke.
Ok this wasn't true sunrise, but it was about 9 am, when the sun first appeared.
