imagine perhaps, maybe, just maybe, that squirt from a ripe cherry tomato, or some other kind is in fact an advantage to the plant and how it spreads its seeds. when cutting up tomatoes today i had some squirts that went quite a ways and then the seeds also stuck to the surface so if you were an animal going by or eating the fruit you could end up wearing some seeds and then transporting them around. 
the seeds are also really sticky. i find them tracked around even after trying to make sure i wipe up all the mess i've made.
some plants are entirely clever like this and after a few million years of efforts this is not all that bad a method of getting the seeds dispersed - or at least some of them...
