Some of my tomato plants right above ground level have about an inch of brown, sick looking stalk. And all of them with it look sickly, like they need water. I'll get some pictures later, but it's raining right now.

I have had this happen to a couple plants I transplanted from the greenhouse. I am sorry to say I have no idea what causes it! In the end I pulled them up. Sorry, hopefully, someone has some ideas...

Only a guess, Cats.

Cause: Fusarium Crown and Root Rot on Tomato Plant

And, some hope for next year: Disease & Nematode Resistant Tomato Varieties

I may be off base but that's the best I can think of. Sorry.

Steve
Thanks, I hope it's not that but we will see how the tomatoes do. So far only two plants have been spotted with it, my only Pink Firefly and one that is either a Mortgage lifter, chocolate strip or the last type I grew from seed whose name is currently gone from my head.

I'll let you guys now how these plants do.

My Jubilee tomatoes have this, but none of the others.

(I'm sticking to Park seed next year! All of those tomatoes are fine, but the Roma and Jubilee that came from random paper seed packets have had no end of trouble.)
