tomatoes

thank you everyone.....

it has been a uphill battle all over the garden this year due to the weather, bugs and diseases.

as some of you can testify to that..

I missed this post somehow. Those jars look great! I'm going to try a tomato-basil sauce this year. I found a jar of it in the grocery awhile back and it's the only store bought sauce I have ever liked. It was very expensive though. Figured I would give it a go at making my own. Dew doesn't like onions or peppers so I can't get too creative :(

Got 12 pints of various red tomatoes & onions canned yesterdsay along with 1 quart of white (yellow) tomatoes to make soup with this fall.
Can't take a good pict... stupid, cheap, broken camera...
But very proud of myslef

You should be very proud of your self!!!! That's a big accomplishment.

I canned 8 pints of soup yesterday made with tomatoes, orange and yellow bell peppers, potatoes, green beans, calico crowder peas and onions. I made soup last year and it was so nice to have it already made, just open and heat! I also canned 6 pints of chicken broth.

Major, those tomatoes do look good. You really have had a lot of bad weather in North Carolina, haven't you? were you in the middle of that flooding they showed on TV?
I am going to try making catsup this year. Store-bought catsup is so sweet it makes me gag!:sick
I guess if I would quit giving away all my ripe tomatoes, I would have enough to make plenty catsup with.
For sauce, I planted that Gilberte tomato this year, with seeds I got from Smart Red (Thank you). Sure are funny looking tomatoes; shaped like hot peppers! but supposed to be really good for sauce and paste.
